Behind the Forge

A little solder.
A little sorcery.

Hey, I’m Jared—the hands behind the hoard. I print, assemble, wire, solder, test, and finish these pieces right here in Bellingham.

From a spool of filament to that first glow, there’s a whole lot of tinkering before a little magic leaves the workbench.

The face behind the mischief

Meet Fil.

Fil is our resident spooligan and Idle Mimic Printing's little troublemaker. He cheers on the good prints, watches over the forge, and seems especially interested when a spool turns into spaghetti.

You'll spot him around the shop in many moods. There is a Fil for the wins, the late nights, and the moments that make us ask, “What the filament?”

What the filament happened here?

Mishaps, Mischief, and Misprints

Not everything that crawls out of the forge is ready for adoption. Some prints exist only to teach us humility—and make excellent evidence.

Six failed yellow pufferfish prints shifted partway through printingClose view of a malformed yellow pufferfish charm
Blooper № 001

The Great Pufferfish Massacre of 2026

Six pufferfish entered the forge. Halfway through the print, every one of them shifted—and not a single fish survived. One was apparently dragged through all nine layers of hell.

Meanwhile, the purge tower finished perfectly, because the printer has a cruel sense of humor.

Blooper № 002

Orca pod, meet spaghetti

Four little orcas went in. A tiny, tangled pod came out.

Blue manta ray print with malformed eye details
Blooper № 003

The manta saw things

The ray made it off the bed. Its eyes had other plans.

Silver articulated shark print in separated pieces on a workbench
Blooper № 004

Shark, disassembled

Technically, all the parts are here. That was not the intended assembly order.

Two colorful wind spinners surrounded by failed supports and filament strands inside a printer

The outer curves looked promising. The supports spun their own tangled story.

Count Drag-ula

This little vampire looks like he had a rougher night than his victims.

Blooper № 007

A little stringy around the edges

The blue hippo squad brought some extra filament along for the ride.

A name with a secret

Idle Mimic Printing.
Call it IMP.

A mimic waits quietly until it has something to become. Our printers do the same. Give them an idea and the idle machines turn filament into creatures, tools, gifts and a surprising amount of adorable nonsense.

And if you noticed the D&D creature hiding in the acronym, you’re our kind of person.
